Gorilla Trekking Sectors in Bwindi National Park
Bwindi National Park offers four main gates or sectors for gorilla trekking: Rushaga, Nkuringo, Ruhija, and Buhoma. Additionally, the Nyakagezi gorilla group can be found in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
Ruhija Sector
Located in the eastern part of Bwindi National Park in Rubanda District, Ruhija is a prime trekking location. It’s easily accessible from Kigali, Rwanda, with a 4-5 hour drive via the Kyanika or Katuna border crossings. Visitors can also fly into nearby Kihihi Airport, with daily flights provided by Aerolink from Entebbe.
Ruhija’s proximity to Lake Bunyonyi makes it a convenient spot for accommodation and trekking. Popular lodges include Ruhija Gorilla Lodge, Bakiga Lodge, and Gorilla Mist Camp.
Rushaga Sector
The Rushaga sector, located in the southern part of Bwindi in Kisoro District, is a highly popular trekking destination. Here’s why Rushaga stands out:

- Accessibility: A 4-5 hour drive from Kigali, Rwanda, via the Kyanika border post, or daily flights to nearby Kisoro Airport from Entebbe through Aero Link.
- Close to Nkuringo: You can stay in Rushaga and also trek gorillas in the nearby Nkuringo sector.
